Allergies

Allergies are an overreaction of the immune system to substances that are typically harmless to most people. These substances, known as allergens, can include pollen, dust mites, mold spores, pet dander, certain foods, insect stings, and medications. When an allergic person comes into contact with an allergen, their immune system mistakenly identifies it as a threat and releases chemicals such as histamine to combat it. This response can cause a range of symptoms, from mild to severe, including sneezing, itching, rashes, swelling, and difficulty breathing. In some cases, allergies can lead to anaphylaxis, a life-threatening reaction that requires immediate medical attention. Allergies can be managed through avoidance of known allergens, medications like antihistamines, and in some cases, immunotherapy.
